Dieta

Nourish your body, prepare your spirit

The Dieta is a sacred practice that aligns your body and mind with the healing energies of the ceremony. By following specific dietary guidelines, you create a pure vessel for the medicine, deepening your connection and enhancing the transformative power of your journey.

In the days leading up to your ceremony, it’s essential to nourish both your body and spirit. Here’s how to best prepare:

Day of the Ceremony

Begin with a healthy breakfast and lunch to maintain your energy. It’s recommended not to eat after 2 PM, except for water, coconut water, or herbal teas. Please avoid caffeine entirely.

Starting the Dieta

You can begin the dieta earlier than the suggested 3 days before the ceremony. For at least 3 days prior, focus on a light diet, avoiding processed foods, garlic, onions, heavy meats, excessive fats, and junk foods. Ideally, avoid all co-active substances such as marijuana and alcohol for at least 7 days before the ceremony—longer if possible—to enhance your experience with the plant medicine.

Meals and Food Sources

Opt for meals that are gentle on your body, such as steamed or raw vegetables, whole grains like millet, brown rice, quinoa, and sprouted grains. If you digest them well, small amounts of eggs, chicken, fish, and other white meats can help keep you nourished. Pay special attention to the sources of your food, particularly meat, as the energy of the animal’s life experiences may be more apparent during the dieta and ceremony. Fresh dairy products like locally-made soft cheeses, yogurt, and cottage cheese are also acceptable.

Special Considerations

If you have received or are planning to receive a COVID vaccine, please ensure there is a minimum of 2 weeks between the vaccination and the ceremony.

Salt & Sodium

Traditionally, salt and sodium are completely avoided for 10 days prior to the ceremonies. Salt can block the visual components of the medicine work, potentially diminishing the depth of your experience.

Substance Interactions

Avoid marijuana, as it can darken and stupefy the experience, negatively impacting not only your journey but also the energy of the entire group. Caffeine, too, can interact poorly with the medicine, so it’s best to cut it out at least a week before the ceremony.

Preserving Energy

Refrain from sexual activity for about 3 days before and after the ceremonies to preserve your sacred life force energy.

Mental Diet

Be mindful of what you consume mentally—what you watch and listen to also contributes to your state of mind.

Medical Precautions

If you have any serious medical conditions or are taking medication, it’s crucial to inform us as soon as possible. Some medications, particularly those affecting the serotonin system like SSRIs or MAO inhibitors, can be dangerous when combined with the medicine. It’s important to consult with your doctor before making any changes to your medication.

By following these guidelines, you’ll create the optimal environment for a deep and transformative experience, allowing the medicine to work with your body and spirit in the most profound way.
